Whenever I use that 808 sample, it has no low sub in it. It sounds really middy and annoying.it really depends what notes youre playing it. Star Wars Battlefront Patch. The default sample doesn't sound too hot, play it at a G or an F and you'll notice a huge difference. When you say low sub what exactly do you mean? Open up a southside track in a daw and load up a spectrum analyzer. At the sub 100hz level theres really not much in there except the kick and the 808 (which is normal i guess).
Lots of his beats will be hitting at 50-60hz but nothing below that. Now do the same except load up just that 808 sample on a diff track. Play it at a G and youll see the same result. As for muddiness, all i can think of is youre not choosing the right kick to go with your 808. Find a kick that is tuned to the root note of the 808s youre playing, and sc it.
The kick shouldnt have too much sub to begin with cause your 808 will take care of that. You could also try filtering or shelving out the top end of the 808 sample because your kick should be doing the top end work, not the 808. Hope that helps. There's several tricks depending on the track. But automating an eq to cut the lows on your bassline(if you have one) helps keeps those kicks sounding very sharp. And allows you pump the volume up on them without clipping the whole beat as fast. Also layering a fast punchy kick that snaps but doesn't have enough low end - with a long duration deep low end 808 with the attack set real slow does wonders.
It makes it seem like its one kick doing it all when it really isn't. And using RBass in combination with a soft clipper like G-Clip can create some real crisp and powerful 808 kick drums as well. Retread your original post. You need some monitors or decent headphones first off. For some mids on that 808, besides eq, Try some distortion, overdrive or Rbass/maxbass type plugin. Try compression, limiting or both. Don't filter out all the 808 top end, eq it.
Clear out the mud-Filter out the lows of most or all of your other tracks. Cut/s at around 200-500 range on bass and/or other instruments should help as well.Ok I've got skull candy headphones, so yeah not relly pro status but they work.on top of that i'm using the fl demo LOL, but don't get me wrong im pretty serious with this stuff i'd like to think. I've got a Logitech sub that works pretty good. When I use distortion it sounds very out of place. Maybe I just need to get a better understanding on how to use these effects.
When I Eq my other sounds ends, the sounds that I eq start to sound as if they are being played through a phone or something. Is it even possible to mix/master professionally on FL? Or do I need multiple programs? And btw I've been using an 808 similar to the shawty red one posted earlier except it came out of the kidd urban Christmas kit. Also where can I get these plugins you mentioned?
Finally, I don't really understand compression, alls I can get it to do is make my sub sound loud or not so loud.its sort of similar to a volume adjustment for me. I guess I just don't have the equipment for this stuff.

To give you an idea of what im working with. I've got a little bit of eq and distortion and soft clipper on the 808. I'm no expert and one of my favorite things about music is I'm always learning and discovering something new. Pretty much every track I do something, at least one or two things different, in terms of mixing and blending sounds. That said it may be really difficult to get a good mix with the speakers and headphones you have. You'll want to make an INVESTMENT in some good monitors and headphones. I like the byerdynamic dt770 pro 80 ohms for headphones But ath m50's may be a lil less pricey and have a great reputation as well.
For monitors I like yamaha hs 80m. Check amazon and eBay. Buy from a reputable buyer. Ne Yo Mad Download Mp3.
If your on amazon I recommend buying items shipped by amazon. Keep in mind, without knowing what your doing and why your doing it, it's still difficult to get a good mix even with great equipment. Nice track though! The 808 on that track sounds decent. Decent bass on my monitors.
Sounds high on my headphones though probably from eq combined with distortion or one of the two. May wanna notch that high honk down a bit with eq.
First rule of 808's is you gotta tune those bishes and you got that down sounds like. If you eq all the top end out of that kick its gonna be hard for the ear to find it. Which sounds like the case in this track. May notch it a bit around 200-500 and 2k ish, but you wouldn't just lowpass it generally. Probably the opposite. More than equipment you need knowledge.

Probably the opposite.thanks for the brief critique and suggestions on 'gear'. Do monitors have subs and speakers in one? Yeah im a noob obviously and probably posted this in the wrong section lol. Yeah I'd eq that mid out of the 808 a bit to tame it. High pass/ cut the lows on the horns.
Put the reverb on a send and eq it.Okay but when I cut the low ends out I feel like it sounds the horns are being played through a phone. It's weird lol. I guess im cutting too much out. Is there a tutorial about putting reverb on a send on youtube?
I have no idea what this is but it sounds like something I want to try can you give a brief explanation on what this does? Because my horns don't really sound legit either. Also, i'm using the orch hit you can find on any lex luger kit online. Also, do you know of any good trap orchestra kit's that are legit? Okay but when I cut the low ends out I feel like it sounds the horns are being played through a phone. It's weird lol.

Lol Yeah it's a fine balance between cutting/notching out frequencies and highpassing. Tell ya what, check out Ken Lewis' audioschoolonline, the trap video. It doesn't cost much and your learning mixing from a pro.
I'm sure there are tuts on YouTube for setting up busses and auxes in fl as well as an explanation of what they do. Orchestra kits. I just use stock logic stuff (which is of no use to you) or kontakt. I don't do much trap tho.
