Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 From the collection of recercares. The music is quiet and soothing and also easy to play. Recorder: SAAAB Skill: 1 Five part missa which sounds beautiful when played with the recorders. Missa Papae Marchelli Recorder: SAAT(A)BB Recorder: SAAT(A)BB Recorder: SAAT(A)BB Recorder: SAT(A)B Recorder: SAAT(A)BB Recorder: SAAT(A)BB Recorder: SAT(A)T Recorder: SAAT(A)BB Recorder: SSAAT(A)BB All at level 1-2 Palestrina's most famous work. Mostly polyphonic and beautiful.

Duple and triple time alternate in some; notation is omitted. Relatively easy, but should be played as if sung by a choir.

Whole music will take more than 30 minutes to play. Motet a 4 Voci Recorder: SATB Skill: 1. Miserere Recorder: SAATB Skill: 1 Recorder: SAAB Skill: 2 Recorder: SAATB Skill: 1 Transcription to F major Recorder: SAATB Skill: 1 Recorder: SAAB Skill: 1 Recorder: SAATB Skill: 1 Used annually for Pope's mass; it was a crime to copy this tune and play outside the church. It has been told that Mozart was quick to hear this tune and make a copy of it. It seems that this was an easy task for Mozart. I have transcribed the first 2 and the last 2 tunes.

Other 10 tunes are similar with different words. This music needs a place like church where you have long resonance. Micrografx Windows Draw 5 Fruit more.

The second part contains the high c for soprano, so I made a transcription to F which is easier. Christmas Concerto Recorder: AA(T optional)B Skill: 2-3 Corelli's music is simple but noble. He avoids any superfluous technical phrase. One of Corelli's best and loved ones.

The famous pastorale is sometimes played immediately after the first ending without repeat. Suite for Strings Recorder: ATBB Skill: 3 An Italian composer of early Baroque period. Bach seems to have been influenced by Corelli.

The slow and easy saraband is followed by gigue and badinerie with progressively fast passages for the alto. The alto part is a little hard but fun to play. Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 A choral music taken from 'King Author'. Quite easy to play for a recorder group with elegant and lively melody. Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 Taken from 'Fairy Queen'. Recorder: ATB Skill: 1 An easy piece. One of Purcell's choral music.

Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 Originally in G minor for strings. Quiet and soothing. Relatively easy to play.

Recorder: AAAB Skill: 3 The rhythm changes constantly, which makes it such fun to play this tune. When the rhythm changes, keep the speed constant. Recorder: AA(T, optional)B Skill: 1 (3 for Tenor) Also known as 'Two in one upon a ground'.

Bass repeats the same pattern of 6 bars. Two altos play the perfect kanon. With all these restrictions, the melody is surprisingly beautiful. Tenor part is transcribed from the right hand of cembalo and thus a little hard to play. This is enjoyable without tenor.

Alto is easy for intermediate players. Telemann was reportedly more popular than Bach.

To our delight, Telemann wrote many beautiful and enjoyable pieces for the recorder. Quartet in d minor Recorder: AAAB Skill: 3 Included in the Tafel Music. Originally for the recorder, two flutes (traverso) and basso continuo. Alto 1 of the second movement is fast and requires a bit of practicing or more to play. This piece is a real fun to play for intermediate level groups. Trio sonata F major (for Recorder, Viola da Gamba, and Basso Continuo) Recorder: ATB Skill: 3 Tenor plays the Gamba's part.

Fast passages of it are a little hard. Trio Sonata g minor (for Recoreder, violine and Basso continuo) Recorder: ATB Skill: 3 Written for the recorder and violin (or tenor recorder) Tenor plays the melody in the slow third movement. You can add as many ornamentations to the melody. The fourth movement is dance; should be played very lively. Trio Sonata C major (for two alto recorders and Basso Continuo) Recorder: AAB Skill: 3 Composed for 2 recorders (or traverso or violin) and basso continuo. Some movements have a woman's name which may indicate the character of that woman.

Musical Fugues, canons and triosonata on the theme by the king Frederick II. Recorders: ATB Skill: 4 3 voice ricercare. Playing is a little hard with occasional difficult fingerings. Recorders: AATBBB(CB) Skill: 4 6 voice ricercare The largest piece in the musical offering. Bass 3 is best played by a contrabass. Recorders: AAB Skill: 2 A small canon in which the second part follows at 5th. This one is easier than the ricercares.

Recorders: AAB Skill: 2 A canon which can be played indefinitely. It ends at the fermata. A small but beautiful piece. Sonata for C major. Recorder: AATB Skill: 2 Recorder: ATB Skill: 3 Recorder: AAB Skill: 2 Recorder: AAB Skill: 2 Accompanying cembalo is joined by the long tone of the violin very very quietly. I like the slow movements of Bach so much.

Originally in h minor, transposed to d minor. The second movement is the hardest.

Melody requires some high notes. I for unaccompanied Violin Recorder: A Skill: 3.5 The CD played by Szeryng is my favorite. Technically difficult but beautiful.

High notes are abundant and the high a'' appears as the last note. This can be played by the fingering 0/23568. 8 being the bottom hole closed by the knee (or any part of your body). Concerto for and Violin BWV1060 Recorder: AT Skill: 2 You know the famous doppel concerto for 2 violins. This is another doppel concert and is also famous, written for oboe and violin (originally for 2 keyboards).

The slow movement is simple and beautiful. Transcribed up second and for alto and tenor recorders. Range of recorder is fully utilized and there are 1 or 2 awkward fingerings. However, playing it is relatively easy except for the high register notes.

Recorders: SATB Skill: 3 Recorder: TAAB Skill: 2 Recorder SATB Skill: 4 Bach's transcription of Vivaldi. The fugue in A minor and the 2nd movement of organ concerto. Your can watch Loeck quartet play the allegro on YouTube. They play in the original d minor; mine is in a minor which is a little easier to play. Allegro is still hard to play; challenging for a group at intermediate level.

If your group can play it musically at the pace of the midi (using mostly single tongueing), you are advanced/upper-intermediate. I like the Largo's unique rhythm and melody very much. Recorder: SATB Skill 3 Bach did not specify which instrument should be used.

So, these fugues are played by many different instruments. The one played by recorders is one of the best suited for the music. It is my dream to play these beautiful fugues with perfect harmony like Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet. To play these through to the end is probably not very hard for intermediate or higher level groups.

To play like Loeki you will need good players and many hours of practice (is it possible at all?). The soprano part of the Contrapunctus 3 is from another Japanese recorder sheet music site-MAT original score. The contrapunctur 19 is unfinished ending at the measure 240. I added 4 measures and completed this fugue (there are 2 versions).

For those who (I am pretty sure there are many) are unsatisfied with my little composition, please finish at the measure 239. Recorder: AAB(or A, B, CB) Skill: 3 BWV1080.13.1: the complete reversal of this fugue is printed on the opposite page. Triplets and dotted notes make this fugue very light and fun to play. The second alto plays high notes and may be a little difficult for beginners. For a group with contrabass, the combination of alto, bass and contrabass is closer to the original. Recorder: AB Skill: 2 Canon at the twelfth, BWV1080.17 Sextuplets may look intimidating, but they are relatively easy to play.

Recorders: ASB Skill: 2 Oboe solo is played by the alto recorder. Soprano solo is played by the soprano recorder (exactly as the original). Bach's oboe melodies are so touching; they are almost addictive. Technically this one is relatively easy. Missa A Major Recorder: AASB Skill: 2 The obbligato played by two traversos are played by 2 alto recorders here. Soprano solo is played by the soprano recorder.

Relatively easy, but annoying right hand cross fingering appears often in the alto parts. Missa G Major Recorder: TSAB Skill: 2-3 Soprano and Alto play the beautiful duet (originally sung by soprano and alto) accompanied by light and witty violin. This violin part is played by tenor (may also be played soprano) which is a little hard. Bass is also (a little bit) hard. Soprano and Alto are relatively easy. This tune needed only minor modifications except the violin part. Missa in G minor Recorder: ABB Skill: 2 The aria sung by bass is played by the bass recorder 1.

Accompanying melancholic violin is played by alto recorder. Some higher notes make this part a little hard to play. The other parts are easy. Recorder: AATB Skill: 1 Many of Bach's chorales can be played easily by the recorders and they sound really good.

Cantata #140 Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme. Recorder: ASTB Skill: 3 A famous cantata with many transcriptions including the one by Kempf for the piano. Alto must deal with the alternation of low A flat and B flat which may be a little difficult. The aria is sung by a tenor. This is meant to be played by soprano recorder; tenor recorder may also play this, but 2 tenors may be better to make the melody stand out. Recorder: AAAB Skill: 2-3 Duet of soprano and bass accompanied by oboe.

I have long been affected with this melody (the major reason I bought an oboe--gave up soon). The beautiful oboe obbligato is played by Alto 1 (this one is a little hard). Alto 2 and 3 play the duet of soprano and bass (these are relatively easy). Bass is basso continuo.

This part may sound better with contrabass recorder; in this case alto 3 may be played by an ordinary bass recorder which resembles original setting. Cantata #106 Recorder: AAGBCB Skill: 2 One of few music by Bach for the recorder. Many of them are found in Cantatas. This one is one of the most famous and beautiful. Somehow this melody is so attractive. GB part may be played by the bass.

Cantata #208 Hunting cantata Recorder: ATA(Sn)B Skill: 2-3 One of the most popular of Bach's secular cantatas. This one is used as the theme music for NHK's morning baroque program. Alto and Tenor play the original duet of 2 altos. Alto 2 plays the choral melody; this part can also be played by sopranino. Players who have no difficulty in playing the 3rd octave notes, please challenge the following version in the original B flat tonality. You need a fairly good recorder to play these notes lightly with nice rhythm. Cantata #147 Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben Recorder: ASATB Skill: 2 From the famous cantata, Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben.

Characteristic triplets are played by alto 1 which is a little hard to play. Dotted notes should be played to synchronize with the triplets by the alto 1. Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 The famous choral which appears four times in different tonality. Play them in perfect harmony requires each part some adjusting; playing itself is easy. Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 Another beautiful choral which appears twice in the same tonality but with a little different chords. Recorder: SATB Skill: 2 This aria can be played fairly easily by most recorder groups.

Recorder: SAT(A)B Skill: 2-3 I like this melody (played by oboe) very much. The solo sung by tenor is played by tenor recorder, or it could be played by alto which is a little easier. Those phrases played by 4 parts are sung by the choir; other phrases are played by solo instruments and orchestra. Recorder: SATB Skill: 2 A beautiful aria sung by soprano The accompaniment has a characteristic nice rhythm. Recorder: SAATBB Skill: 3 My favorite alto solo, which is a little difficult to play.

Use the midi file to obtain the rough idea of how these small notes are played. Temperierte Clavier.

Recorder: SAB Skill: 2.5 Beautifully noble theme. One of the most renowned fugues of Bach. Recorder: SAB Skill: 2.5 Originally in C sharp minor. Melancholic siciliana. Recorder: AABBB Skill: 3 A triple fugue with themes. Complex and highly refined fugue.

Bass 3 is best played by a contrabass. Recorder: ATB Skill: 2 The last piece of the volume one of the well temperierte clavier Richter plays this prelude very slowly. With the recorder, the tension notes are more clearly heard and sounds beautifully. This prelude is easier than the following fuga. Recorder: SATB Skill: 3 This fugue is a little hard with awkward fingerings. But it's worth trying. Recorder: ATB Skill: 2 The best-known prelude of Bach.

3 parts must be well synchronized to play the arpeggio of the keyboard. A special extra for you. Recorder: SATB Skill: 2 Gounod added a beautiful melody to the Bach's C major prelude. Tonality is in F in this arrangement. Recorder: SATB Skill: 3 Fugue in 4 parts. Recorder: AB Skill: 4 My favorite music. This one is pretty hard but very much fun and stimulating.

Could be played by alto only but will be more fun with a good bass recorder player. Concerto for. Recorder: SATB Skill: 2 A Choral prelude from the OrgerBuchlein Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 Very, very quiet and beautiful. Soprano needs a lot of lyrics to make this easy phrase sound like real Bach. In Eflat major Recorder: ATB Skill: 3 Triosonata for organ Tenor part is a little difficult to play but manageable because it is played very slowly. Contrabass will be best for the bass part. Recorder: SATB partly SAB and ATB Skill: 1-3 Bach's religious choral works have wealth of beautiful music quite suited for recorder groups.

Most of them can be played without major changes in music. This mottete has not been changed much, although 5 parts music has been transcribed to SATB quartet. MIDI (which takes about 16 min) and parts contain all the movements. Menuett: Transcription by Kempff Recorder: SATB Skill: 2 Kempff has published several transcriptions of Bach, Handel etc for the piano.

This is a rendition for the recorder quartet. Playing is easy and the melody is beautiful. From the opera Rinaldo Recorder: SATB (T,B,GB,CB) Skill: 1 The one is just as popular as the 'Largo'. It will sound better with lower pitched recorders, if they are available. MIDI is recorder in this low pitched combination. Sonata for two alto recorders and basso continuo Recorders: AAB Skill: 2 Handel composed this sonata while he was in Italy. To play the third movement fast may raise the skill level above 2.

I like the slow movement. Opera Xerxes Recorder: SATB Skill: 1 The most popular among Handel's vocal work. The melody is so sweet. Accompanying parts should be played softly. Hapsichord Suite V Recorder: SATB Skill: 3 A beautiful tune from the harpsichord suite.

I like this one when played softly and quietly. Bass part has one terrible passage; quite a challenge to your skill. Recorder: SATB Skill: 3 I like this well known lively aria. It's fun to play this one although triplets are a little hard to play. From the string quartet 'Lark' Fourth movement Recorder: SATB Skill: 4 The bright mood of this quartet makes this piece popular. The last movement of the quartet is transcribed for SATB recorder quartet.

A pace of 120 quarter notes per minute will be a little hard for intermediate players. 100 is just as effective and fun to play. Trio in G Recorder: ATB Skill: 4 Originaly for a piano trio in G major.

I like the sweet melody of the second movement. Other movements are lively and fun to play. The third movement is taken from the music of Gypsy. The second movement is the hardest with four sharps and fast ornamentations. Alto plays a high g# (0/2356) but this is not so hard. Other movements are not easy either; recommended for intermediate groups as a good piece of technically challenging music.

London Trio #1 Movement II was arranged by my friend Michael Recorder: AAB Skill: 3 Very light and lively. From Development for 2 flutes and basso continuo, Hob 4-1 London Trio #4 Recorder: AAB Skill: 4 Ranges are higher than that in the London Trio #1 and thus a bit harder. Alto 1 need to hadle the high f#'' which seldom appears in intermediate level recorder music. The other parts also uses high notes but the skill levels are 3. String Quartet Op 55.2 'Razor' Recorder: ATTB Skill: 2 Don't you think that most string quartets are a bit gloomy. Haydn's quartets are unique in that they have bright and positive feelings.

This quartet may not be the most popular, but definately among the best. There are two themes upon which Haydn wrote charming variations. String Quartet 'Emperor' Recorder: ATBB Skill: 2 (Alto in Var.1 is a little harder) Tha National anthem of the former Austria. Each part plays the well-known melody once. Not very hard for intermediate level players. This MIDI just does not sound right.

Recorder: SATB Skill: 2 The slow movement of a popular piano trio in G. The original E major was transposed to F major. Recorder: ATB Skill: 3 Scribbled down by Mozart on the guest book of the organist Engel. Jumps, complicated chords, and the rhythm of gigue makes this small piece unique. The music may look intimidating but I am sure many intermediate players will be able to sight play this.

Quartet in F KV370 Recorder: AATB Skill: 3-4 Originally for oboe, violin, viola, and cello. Familiar, lively melodies. Alto 1 in the third movement plays fast passages with rhythm change. For other parts, scales are not as difficult as they look; a good challenge for intermediate groups. The cadence in the adagio is mine: please write your own. From Requiem K626 Recorder: SATB (+obligato alto for Lacrimosa) Skill: 2 An unfinished music composed on the bed facing his own death. Beautiful pieces filled with deep sorrow.

Playing is relatively easy for intermediate players. When playing all of these, play the Lacrimosa or Kyrie last. Divertimento K136 Recorder: AATB Skill: 4 Written when Mozart was only 16. This one is challenging for an intermediate group, because the first movement has a pretty hard phrase for tenor and the second movement has the high f#'' for alto 1. Originally in d major written for a string quartet. Divertimento K138 Recorder: ATBB Skill: 3 Written in the same period as K136.

I like the slow movement (but other movements are also nice to play). This transcription retains the original tonality (F-dur). Recorder: AATBB Skill: 2 Slow and smooth; full of Mozart's sentiment. Each part plays the melody; the second bass plays the cadenza! Please compose and use your own cadenza instead.

Recorder: AATBB Skill: 2 I love this sentimental movement. The slow movements of Mozart's piano concertos are really touching. They are in a way very sad. Transcribed to g minor from the original f# minor.

Recorder: AATB Skill: 2 Originally a quintet for glassharmonica, flute, oboe, viola and cello K617 The rondo part of the original quintet is arranged for recorder quartet. This music is rarely played but is romantic and full of fantasy. This piece is relatively easy to play and nice to hear. Recorder: AATB Skill: 2 This slow movement has always been one of my best 3 favorites.

Sentimental and beautiful; sometimes so sad. Recorder: B(A)AATB(CB) Skill: 2 This slow and soothing melody is quite popular; you probably have heard it. I find music for horn can be adopted for the recorder quite nicely. Recorder: B(A)ATB(CB) Skill: 3 This is also a typical of Mozart's lively and lovely music. Solo part is not so hard. Orchestra parts, especially tenor is a little hard. When bass recorder plays the solo, bass part is best played by a contrabass.

Cadenza is mine. Mozart may not like it; please compose your own, it's fun. Recorder: AB Skill: 4 This really is 'Mozart'. Natural and unexpected, beautiful and fascinating. Alto is difficult but fun to play. Bass is less difficult but definitely not easy. Recorder: AATB Skill: 1 A very famous masterpiece of chorus music.

Looks very simple but this one is in fact difficult to make it sound right. Coronation Mass Recorder: SATB Skill: 2 One of the best of Mozart's church music. The loveliest of aria sung by soprano followed by lively chorus. The sweet melody is first played by the alto who should play the high F as softly as possible. At the end of the music, bass plays the most difficult part (may be at a skill level of 3) which may require some practicing.
